How Will Movers Protect Furniture Against Damages?

One of the main reasons why people opt for moving companies instead of taking on the burden of moving themselves is because of the safety issues. Moving companies have access to all kinds of tools and materials that a regular homeowner doesn’t: dollies and ramps for loading, specialty packing supplies, and the muscle needed to move thousands of pounds’ worth of belongings in a day.

It’s no wonder why, then, that so many people wonder just what steps a moving company will take to protect furniture against scratches, dents, and other damages. What can you expect for your money?

>  Plastic Wrap: You may find that some of your furniture is covered in what looks like giant kitchen cling wrap. This is essentially what it is—large sheets of plastic wrap that go around a piece of furniture or appliance to protect the surface and keep doors/drawers closed.

>  Bubble Wrap: In addition to (or, in some cases, instead of) plastic wrap, your furniture might also be wrapped with bubble wrap or another kind of air cushion. This extra layer of protection will help with more fragile pieces.

>  Moving Blankets: Any material covered in plastic isn’t going to be able to “breathe” well. If your furniture has the potential to be damaged by a lack of air circulating around it, your team may opt for moving blankets, which add both a cushion and a protective layer.

>  Specialty Boxes: Some items of furniture (like mirrors) are best moved in specialty boxes that are designed to reduce impact and provide a barrier between the surface of the piece and other items being moved.

>  Ramps and Dollies: The biggest potential for damage while moving furniture isn’t during the journey—it’s while items are being loaded and unloaded. That’s why we use ramps, dollies, and other tools that make it easy and safe to transport large items.

>  Tie Downs: Once the furniture is loaded on the truck, hooks and tie downs will be used to hold large items in place. This will prevent shifting during transit and keep your furniture safe throughout the journey.

If you have a special piece of furniture that will require additional protection, it’s a good idea to talk with your moving team ahead of time. This way, we can make arrangements that will protect your belongings along the way.
